Could you raise a puppy to become a service dog?

Would you enjoy taking an older dog in training home during the evenings or weekends?

From families with young children, military spouses, empty-nesters and everyone in between, volunteering for Mutts with a Mission is a rewarding experience and can positively change the life of a Veteran and Wounded Warrior.

If you’re interested in volunteering but aren’t sure about what’s involved or what type of commitment you’re ready for, please contact us at 757-465-1033. We can arrange for you to visit one of our puppy classes.

If you’ve read the section on puppy raising and are ready to sign up, please fill out and submit the puppy raiser application.

Thank you for helping us “Serve Those Who Keep Us Free”.

Mutts with a Mission always needs puppy raisers. The more puppy raisers we have, the more service dogs we can place with Veterans,Wounded Warriors, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders, and qualified Federal Workers who cannot participate in our owner train program. Our puppy raisers are very special people, and we depend on them to help us provide quality dogs.

As a Puppy Raiser you bring one of our service dog candidate pups into your home and care for him for the first 12 – 18 months attending training classes during this time. Mutts with a Mission will pay for food, veterinary care, equipment, and training. There are few things in this world more heart-warming than handing your pup’s leash over to its new partner and knowing that you’ve helped to return independence to a veteran who gave selflessly of themselves. Where else can one person have such a direct, profound, life changing impact on a Veteran,Wounded Warrior, Law Enforcement Officer, First Responder, and qualified Federal Worker?

We realize not everyone can be a puppy raiser and that’s okay we can utilize your talents elsewhere! We sometimes need equipment built, volunteers at events, and many more opportunities. If you would like to volunteer please fill out our Volunteer Application.
