Mutts With A Mission is grateful for the support of our donors, puppy raisers, volunteers and staff who have worked collaboratively to make 2024 successful year. ⚓FATHOM, USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH⚓
EXPEDITIONARY FACILITY DOG
Fathom is a 2 year-old "Fox Red" Yellow Labrador Retriever who came to MWAM, along with his brother, Rudder, from Turtle Creek Kennels in Celina, OH. Fathom has joined the crew of the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) as an Expeditionary Facility Dog (EFD). BUSH is the tenth and final ship of the Nimitz Class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and hosts a crew of about 3,200 Sailors and 2,500 Air Wing personnel. While serving on board the ship, Fathom will aid in breaking down barriers that may prevent military members from seeking help and guidance from available mental health professionals. Fathom will also support general morale improvement while deployed and be available to travel by helicopter to visit other ships in the BUSH Strike group.
He will have a primary handler and 3 other volunteer handlers who all completed 120 hours of training with MWAM. The handler team will support and care for Fathom daily. Just like our other EFDs, Fathom has his own version of a seabag complete with proper bedding, hear, eye and paw protection, life vest, food, and of course treats and toys.
Fathom has completed an amazing 2 years growing and learning with his incredible puppy raiser and is ready to do his job aboard BUSH. We are excited to watch him bond with crew members, assist in decreasing anxieties, and be a comfort when needed. Fair Winds and Following Seas, Fathom!

VB VETS GIVE BACK

We are delighted to announce our new Sponsor, VB VETS GIVE BACK. This outstanding group of Veterans, and their supporters, raise funds through charity events and donate proceeds to local charities and non-profit organizations in Hampton Roads. This year, the annual charity golf tournament was held at Heron Ridge Golf Club, in Virginia Beach, on a beautiful warm October day. Mutts With A Mission is humbled to be the recipient of the proceeds from this marvelous event.

The folks at VB Vets Give Back had the honor of naming our newest SDiT, Willow. Willow comes to MWAM from Gainesfield Labradors, located in Hayes, VA. She is settling in nicely with her puppy raiser family, learning to recognize her name and working on understanding house behavior. While training for the next 2 years, Willow will proudly wear the logo of VB Vets Give Back on her vest. MWAM is extremely grateful for organizations that support and sponsor our mission.
